The Story of Stendarr & Aarianna
by Kandorr & Brin
At the dawn of time,
the Powers that be created the world and everything on it, this includes all the races. The world turned and the years passed ant it came to be that Magic flourished throughout the lands. There magics were subdivided into different classes, and the people trained each to their own class. When training in one classwas complete, a person could train in another. As the person aged, this training took longer to learn. There was one such man on this earth that grew up happy in his teachings. He married and soon discovered that he wanted to do more for his new wife and the family they hoped to have. It was at this particular time that his wife told him that they were expecting their first child. Thrilled with this knowledge he pursued his new training even harder. So it was when the time came for his wife to deliver their child, she was alone and unaided.
Knowing her time was close, Stendarr fought to be by his wife's side in her time of need. Unfortunately the Powers that be did not spare the life of his beloved wife. He found their child healthy and strong, but he had come too late to help his wife. He raged against the Powers that be and swore to never follow the ways of good again for following such ways had not helped his wife.
Fashioning a backpack of sorts, he continued his training, carrying his small child with him for a time. Finally he found a guild that would care and train her in their ways. He continued his training, promising himself that he would learn all that there was to know of everything in the world. Along the way, he helped no one, and laughed at others plights. He fought only the good and left the others to themselves. He thought only of himself, forgetting for a time that he even had a little child.
Time passed swiftly, and Stendarr's reputation proceeded him and people cursed him for his purely selfish ways. Whatever cruelties there was to do, Stendarr did it. Along the way he attained great wealth and riches, but helped no others unless he got something greater in return.
His cruelty reached an apex one-day, when he came across a farmer whose son was trapped beneath a wagon. Both father and son begged and pleaded with Stendarr to help, but he took note of their ragged clothes and in keeping with his purely selfish ways ignored their pleas. In fact he laughed at the expression on the face of the child as he died. Enraged by the death of his only son, the father sought his revenge by finding and murdering the only pure and wholesome thing in Stendarr's life.... His daughter, Aarianna.
Stendarr found his daughter's still warm body on the site that is now Stendarr's Chapel. He pleaded with the Powers that be to take him and not his daughter, for she had never hurt anyone. The Powers that be promised him immortality on the condition that he shows the world that he had truly changed his evil, and selfish ways. They invested in him, some magical powers to help him on his way. Try as he might, his tears and even the spilling of his own blood would not bring back the beautiful Aarianna.
In his anguish over his own inability to prevent her death, the way of repentance was shown to him. Reaching into his pack and taking out a length of cloth he wiped the blood from the self-inflicted wounds on his face. Clearing his eyes of such matter, he found that he had used the only cloth big enough to cover his daughter. Dressing her, and wrapping her in the blood stained shroud, he placed her on a litter he fashioned to wear upon his back. Once again he carried her with him. This time doing good deeds wherever he went. His travels took him all over the world with the constant reminder of the results of his careless, selfish ways. People started to follow him and he agreed to teach them of the good and pure path. Word of his repentance reached the Powers that be and after one hundred and one years of hearing the people bless Stendarr for his goodness, they created a place of peace and beauty for he beloved Aarianna to rest.
Stendarr finally came upon the most beautiful place he had ever seen. A place of which he felt matched the beauty of his daughter and so laid her to rest there. It was noticed that his blood, on the cloth he had wrapped her in had preserved her body to near perfection. And thus, with the help of his followers, he laid her to rest.
On this day Stendarr was granted his full immortality. It is said that those who were with him at the time, laid his body to rest beside that of his lovely daughter, and built an altar to sanctify his name. This sight is now known throughout the land as Stendarr's Sanctuary. These people proclaimed themselves the Watchmen of the world, defenders of good, and protectors from evil.
Stendarr passed on to his followers the ability to look into the character of others and see revealed there the truth that is buried beneath the surface of all people. It follows now that Stendarr passes on his divine wisdom to the Guardians of the Watchmen and they in turn, pass this information on to the Sentinels, and Seerers of this fellowship. The Sentinels and Seerers then pray for divine guidance in creating the items that are
then made available for the Watchemen's use.
Stendarr watches over the Watchmen, and will not stand for a single one of them to disobey the ways of truth. His dishonesty cost him his daughter's life; he will let no others suffer because of one of his followers. Because of this he gave the Watchmen certain rules to live by.
